Legacy is built “zero-knowledge,” in plain terms: your passphrase never leaves your device, and neither does the key it creates.
When you enter your passphrase, your browser turns it into an encryption key on your device. That key is never sent to us — not even for a moment.
What reaches our servers is ciphertext: numbers and letters that mean nothing without your key. We can't read your vault, your accounts, or your documents.
If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery code, your data is gone for good. We can't recover it for you. That's the tradeoff for a service that genuinely can't read your information — it's worth understanding before you start.

Add the people you trust and set up an optional check-in. If you go quiet for as long as you choose, Legacy notices and gives your survivors a path to the access you've already prepared for them — nothing more, nothing hidden.
Ask Legacy's assistant about what you've saved, or describe a new bill or account instead of filling out a form. It only ever sees what your browser chooses to decrypt and send it, one request at a time.
