Terms of Service
Last updated: September 10, 2026 · Beta
Legacy is currently in private beta. These terms are written in plain language for a beta product, not a finished one — they'll be revisited before a general release. By using Legacy, you agree to the terms below.
Beta software, as-is
Legacy is under active development. Features may change, break, or be removed without much notice, and we make no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Use it with that in mind — and see the section below on keeping your own copies of anything irreplaceable.
Not legal or financial advice
Legacy is a tool for organizing information — it is not a substitute for a will, a lawyer, or a financial advisor, and nothing in the app (including the obituary drafter, the readiness checklist, or the assistant) constitutes legal or financial advice. Estate planning has real legal consequences that depend on your jurisdiction and circumstances. Please talk to a qualified professional before making decisions based on anything you do in Legacy.
Your passphrase and recovery code are yours to keep
Legacy is built so that we cannot read your encrypted data, which also means we cannot recover it for you. Your vault passphrase and your recovery code (if you generate one) are the only ways in. If you lose both, your encrypted data is permanently lost — we have no back door, no master key, and no way to help you get it back. Keeping those credentials safe is your responsibility.
Acceptable use
Please don't use Legacy to:
- Attempt to access another person's account or data without authorization.
- Interfere with or attempt to disrupt the service (for example, by overwhelming it with traffic or probing it for vulnerabilities without permission).
- Use the service for anything illegal, or to store or transmit content you don't have the right to store.
- Misuse the survivor check-in or notification system to harass or deceive someone.
We may suspend or terminate an account that abuses the service or violates these terms, with notice where practical.
The beta may change or end
Because this is a beta, we may change, pause, or discontinue the service, or any feature of it, at any time. If we plan to end the beta or make a change that affects your access to your data, we'll aim to give you reasonable notice so you can export or preserve what matters to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Legacy and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including loss of data resulting from a lost passphrase or recovery code, service interruptions, or reliance on content generated by the obituary drafter or assistant.
Changes to these terms
We'll update the date at the top of this page whenever these terms change. Since the product is still taking shape, expect that to happen more than once during the beta.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, ask us before you rely on it — especially anything touching your passphrase, your recovery code, or what happens to your data.
Write to support@spinachcreations.com and a person will read it.
